3 things that I need to improve on:
I want to improve on my confidence because that is a key skill that is needed in the music industry, especially on the performance side, which is what I am interested in getting into. This is mainly because I will often be on stage or playing in front of people, and being confident is important as it will help improve the performance.
I also want to improve my improvisational skills as it is highly important that I am able to improvise and recover if I ever forget or make a mistake during a set. If I suddenly miss a drum or a cymbal during a performance, I need to learn how to recover from that and be able to adapt to the changes that need to be made. The songs I have chosen to do in my Task 2 and 3, will hopefully help develop this to a certain extent.
My final improvement that I want to work on, is my fills as they are usually a big part of any performance when playing the drums. Fills separate sections of the piece and define the difference between each part. Sometimes I struggle to make up fills in my head as I haven’t covered a wide range of fills. This all comes under improvisation as well. The fills I tend to use at the moment, are very basic and easy as I’ve never had to use many in the songs that I’ve performed, and if I have, they’re only half a bar long so I don’t get a chance to do much.
